Stuff We Liked This Week: Volume One

This is a post about things on the Internet we found interesting this week:

Abiiiiii’s

1. (Vice) Presidential Debates

I don’t know about you guys, but watching the debates and reading Twitter at the same time is my new favorite form of entertainment.

I mean, COME ON! This is hilarious!

2. “I Knew You Were Trouble” by Taylor Swift

I’m addicted.

3. JK Rowling + The Daily Show = Awesomeness

JK Rowling visited The Daily Show sometime recently to promote her new book, but the interview got even more interesting in part 2 when they got a little sidetracked and discussed politics and the like.
Embedding hates me, so here are links to Part 1 and Part 2

4. This video about modern photography and the use of apps such as Instagram

I found this video from this Gizmodo article, and I thought it was a pretty good defense of Instagram. I personally love when more people get interested in photography because that means I don’t have to look at low-quality pictures on Facebook anymore. And I use Instagram because, let’s face it, sometimes when you take a picture (especially on a crappy iPhone camera) it could definitely benefit from a little TLC, and that’s exactly what Instagram provides.

Alexaaaaa’s

1. Adele songs that aren’t done by Adele

I can’t really explain why, because everyone else seems to love her, but I’m not a huge Adele fan. Even so, I’ve been playing these two versions of “Rolling in the Deep” on repeat all week because, in my opinion, they take it up a notch.

^We discovered the second one when a housemate in Argentina played it at a party!

2. Escape plans

That sounds harsher than I actually mean it. Abi has talked about our journey to find real person jobs. I’ve been quieter about it because the things that are calling to me seem unrealistic, but when I look at “reasonable” options, I freak out about even starting to commit to something that doesn’t sound that interesting. That’s why articles about 20-somethings fleeing to Brazil for work (Part 1 & Part 2) make me feel like there’s hope for some adventure!

ADVENTURE!

Along that same line, here’s the Kiwi-centric version of an argument I practically could have written: In Defense of Leaving the Country to Find Employment.

3. One Young World (#OYW)

The 3rd annual One Young World Summit began yesterday in Pittsburgh. Don’t know what that is? Basically, there are around 1,500 people between the ages of 18 and 30 coming from 196 countries to make connections and chat about global issues. And they’re in Pittsburgh. Last year, the summit was in Switzerland, and next year it will be in South Africa, so you can see why it’s a big deal that it’s here now. I kind of hate myself for not signing up to be a volunteer on time, so I’m obsessively following the #OYW tweets to make up for it. People are putting up pictures all over the place, so it’s like you’re THERE!

There’s a OYW Welcome Exchange in the Cultural District that’s open to the public on Saturday, so I’m planning to crash the party and meet some important kiddos. I’d drag Abi with me if Saturday wasn’t her 22nd BIRTHDAY! 😀

Wait, are we getting old?

Anyway, hope you enjoyed the knick-knacks. Feel free to share your favorite Internet finds; we’re very much in favor of cool things to distract us from homework. Have a great weekend, everyone!
